Confessions of a Probation Officer – Ray O’Brien

 

Ray is based in the the Wirral and is a member of the Wirral History and Heritage Association. Ray was a Probation Officer for nearly 25 years before taking early retirement. Ray’s duties involved him working in a variety of locations including Liverpool (Walton) Prison. Confessions of a Probation Officer will be mainly a humorous talk based on Ray’s personal experiences.

Lytham Hall 2

Lytham Hall is the finest Georgian House in Lancashire. It is a Grade 1 listed building situated in 80 acres of parkland. The site of Lytham Hall dates back to a 12th century Benedictine monastery. Sir Cuthbert Clifton built a Jacobean Manor House in 1606 which was then remodelled by Thomas Clifton in 1752 into the Palladium House that stands today.

Access:  Please note, the house is on 3 floors and unfortunately there are no lifts.

Cost: to include travel, tea/coffee on arrival, private talk, lunch and gratuities.

Lunch:  Option 1 – Hotpot with red cabbage    Option 2 – Vegetarian lasagne.

Please indicate your choice of lunch on booking form.

Holker Hall 1

Holker Hall is a Lake District visitor attraction near Grange-over Sands. Holker Hall is the home of Lord and Lady Cavendish and is a spacious Victorian style property. Visitors can wander freely in the Hall and award winning gardens. Many rare plants and shrubs can be found in the woodland and the garden. There is also a limestone cascade, a fountain and a sunken garden.Holker Hall and Gardens

We will have a stop en route at National Trust Sizergh Castle. We will spend an hour at Sizergh for those who wish to purchase refreshments. After a leisurely tea/coffee we will proceed to Holker Hall arriving around midday. There is a good cafe on site serving lunches and snacks. Sheltered benches sit within a walled part of the beautiful gardens where sandwiches can be enjoyed if you prefer to bring a picnic lunch.

Cost: to include travel, admission and gratuities.
