Great Barn re-opens at Gawthorpe Hall

Great Barn at Gawthorpe Hall
Mayor of Burnley cuts ribbon with Mayor of Pendle

The re-opening ceremony for the Great Barn at Gawthorpe Hall took place place on 15th July 2026. This was a significant moment in the history of the 420 year old barn as it had been closed to general access since 2008. Over the years attempts had been made to make the roof waterproof but these had proved ineffective. A benefactor donated a legacy to kick start a fund for a major repair of the roof. A campaign followed to raise more money to which SoFA donated.

Gawthorpe is cared for jointly by the National Trust and Lancaster County Council. Representatives from these organisations along with one from Heritage England informed the gathering of the work that had been done, the hopes for the future use of the barn and thanked the many people and organisations that had been involved in the project. SoFA was amongst those who were thanked. The Mayor Of Burnley then cut the ribbon and declared the barn open. Refreshments were provided by Mooch the company that have taken over the cafe at Gawthorpe.
