Southport Lifeboats – Elaine Almond

Southport Offshore Rescue Trust is an independent charity that provides a 24-hour lifesaving service around the Southport Coast. In the 1980’s, after a series of tragedies off the Southport coast, bereaved relatives and local people campaigned for a new lifeboat service for the town.

The current Southport Lifeboat called Heather White, covers an area between the River Mersey and the River Ribble and up to 25 miles offshore. The Southport ILB, Christopher Taylor, provides cover for inshore or shallow waters and Southport Marine Lake.
The Southport Lifeboat also operates three ATV Quad bikes, which are used to cover the beach, sand dunes, marshes and woodland area. The newest addition to the team is the use of UAS (drones) to help locate casualties. Elaine will talk about the brand new Southport Lifeboat Station on Marine Drive.
