RHS Bridgewater Garden

Q: How do you enjoy a (sunny) day in August? A: At the 154 acre green space that is the fifth and newest RHS garden at Bridgewater close to the historic canal in Worsley. Hassle free travel is followed by deciding how to plan your enjoyment of the visit. After experiencing the Welcome garden, the choice includes the Paradise garden, Kitchen garden or following the winding paths of the Chinese streamside garden. Or simply begin in the 11 acre Victorian garden, one of the UK’s largest. You also have the choice of planning a picnic lunch, cafe catering or a mixture of both.

Mobility aids are available with a refundable deposit and can be requested when booking the outing. The coach will pick up at Churchtown, Southport, Birkdale, Ainsdale and Formby. See SoFA Spring Magazine for details.

Time to Glow at RHS Bridgewater! See the garden sparkle this Festive Season and follow dazzling displays lighting a magical trail. Perhaps this is something you will now arrange to do on your own?

If you visit you can experience a selection of RHS Bridgewater’s best loved locations including the Weston Walled Garden, Chinese Streamside Garden and Ellesmere Lake as never seen before. Be wowed by the sight of sparkling trees, shrubs and water features basking in the glow.

Treat yourself to a selection of warming drinks and tasty festive treats along the way to keep you aglow.

PLEASE NOTE: This outing included a fair amount of walking over uneven terrain and is therefore unsuitable for anyone with restricted mobility.

The pick up points were Churchtown 2:30pm, Southport 2:40pm, Birkdale 2:50pm, Ainsdale 3:00pm and Formby 3:10pm.

Our second outing of 2022 is to RHS Garden Bridgewater, Worsley, Salford. The RHS Garden is set within the historic grounds of Worsley New Hall, this spectacular 154-acre garden blends the heritage of an old garden landscape with contemporary designs and world-class horticulture. Everything is beginning to flourish, ready to grow through the seasons and years to come.

Highlights include the Worsley Welcome Garden, designed by Tom Stuart-Smith. Lose yourself in the maze-like planting, which showcases a blend of grasses, herbaceous perennials, lush lawns and beehive-shaped tree topiary.

RHS Bridgewater is home to one of the largest walled gardens in Europe, which contains themed gardens within its boundary including the Paradise Garden, inspired by early Persian Gardens and a beautiful and productive Kitchen Garden.

Please note refreshments and lunch are not included but some of you may wish to bring a packed lunch to allow more time in the gardens.

The costs includes travel, admission and gratuities. Please note if you are a RHS Member the outing cost is at a reduced rate of £16.

The pickup points are at Churchtown, Southport, Birkdale, Ainsdale and Formby.
