SoFA Summer Lunch

On Thursday 26 June 51 members attended the SoFA Summer Lunch at Southport Old Links Golf Club in Churchtown.

The weather was windy, but sunny and we were all personally greeted by Carol and shown to our allocated table.

There was a lot of chatter, which went quiet when we were served our first course, the volume also decreased when we were all consuming the main course and dessert.

Carol, as usual had made a great job of sorting a menu for us, the food was very filling and tasty and the staff all had a good humour.

During our lunch there was plenty of time to chat which many different people and catch-up with those we’d not seen for awhile.

Frank, SoFA’s chair, thanked Carol for all her hard work in arranging this lunch for us, the staff was also thanked for the food and the service they provided us.

Those in attendance were reminded of the upcoming Tea and Coffee afternoon which is being held on Saturday 26 July t 1.45pm the venue being St. John’s Anglican Church, 708 Liverpool Road, AINSDALE PR8 3QE.

Christmas Lunch 25th November 2024

Storm Bert had done its worst but that did not deter 78 of our members who ventured out to the Old Links Golf Club for lunch. The room was beautifully decorated with balloons and a tree, a few Christmas jumpers also added to the Festive occasion.

I had a traditional lunch of prawns, turkey and Christmas pudding which was most enjoyable. As far as I could tell the alternative choices were equally as good. Given the number in our group and the various choices of dishes, I thought the service was excellent. Unfortunately two people who had booked were unable to attend but their lunches were boxed up and delivered to them. A nice touch I thought.

Thank you to Maggie for arranging the meal and to Jeanette and her staff for preparing and serving the food. Lastly thank you to all who attended, making it a most pleasant afternoon. On behalf of the Committee may I wish all our members a very Merry Christmas and we look forward to seeing you in the New Year.

A Summer lunch has been planned at one of our favourite venues, Southport Old Links Golf Club in Churchtown. In the past we have enjoyed excellent food, the venue and the company of friends. Details together with the menu can be found in our Spring Magazine.

In a climate of heat and rainfall records, the members who attended our summer lunch came on a cool, cloudy August day but departed on a warm, bright afternoon. Between these changes of weather, 67 of our members including first timers and new members, enjoyed a great Summer Lunch at Southport Old Links Golf Club. Our host Jeanette, provided a varied choice of excellent food which was well prepared and presented.

The lunch is a twice yearly event on our calendar. It provides an opportunity for members to meet in pleasant surroundings, hear the latest group news and enjoy a catch-up with friends. Commenting on the lunch, a new member noted especially the friendly atmosphere. Many are looking forward to our Christmas Lunch on 30th November at the same venue.
